About Us:

The Nobel Peace Laureate Project is a grass roots organization in Eugene, Oregon created to promote peace by honoring and inspiring peacemakers. The group is composed of educators, political activists, and concerned citizens who want to work for world peace.

The Nobel Peace Laureate Project is a 501-C(3) public corporation and a qualifying non-profit partner of the Oregon Cultural Trust.

Brief Biographies

Claes Nobel - Senior member of the Swedish Nobel Family, is a renowned champion of environmental stewardship, earth ethics, and youth leadership. Mr. Nobel is head of United Earth, and Founder & Chairman of the National Society of High School Scholars. He advises spiritual, political, and economic leaders on preserving the earth and preserving peace, as well as working to help instill these ideals in youth through education and example.

John Attig - A retired designer of history games who realized that while many generals are honored very few people recognize or know much about the peacemakers of this country. The Nobel Peace Laureate Project is his idea and he is the driving force behind this project.

Dan Arkin (Former Director, Deceased) - A retired attorney who now describes himself as a volunteer advocate, particularly for numerous disability-related issues and causes. He resided in Eugene since 1999. He believed this Peace Laureate project is much needed and well-suited to the proposed site and Eugene.

Nancy Newman - Taught middle school social studies, language arts and technology for 34 years in Eugene, Oregon. She was part of the teacher student team that created the Peace Project in 1994. This project won International recognition and encouraged collaboration of students worldwide to contribute to and create peace.

Lura Pierce - 30 years as Middle School Language Arts, Social Studies, Speech, and Drama teacher, 10 years as University of Oregon Instructor of English Methods Course. Motivational Speaker for 25 years. PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. Masters in journalism. Voted one of the top five funniest people in Eugene. Dr. Frank Vignola - Director of the University of Oregon Solar Energy Center

Mary Lou Vignola - Retired University of Oregon - peace advocate.

Dr. Mary Ann Holser - Retired health policy professor, civic volunteer.

David Mandelblatt - A retired public school teacher whose entire 33 year career was spent in Eugene. As pacifist, he is committed to furthering positive efforts on behalf of a peaceful world. The work of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates serves as an inspiration for all of us.
